Rancho San Miguel Swim Club Opening Day With Joe

The latest edition of CA Modern noted that an Eichler owner had discovered a short film of the opening day of Rancho San Miguel Swim Club, Walnut Creek, California, May 24, 1959. At 3:55 into the film, who should appear but Joe Eichler!

The video is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FByKB3vZI0

Here's a screen capture of a frame showing Joe, looking formal in a suit with his usual bow tie.

But what struck me most about watching the film was what it had to say about Americans of the 50's compared to Americans today: I could not see a single overweight person in the film, and it showed several hundred people. What a contrast.
